Welcome

Hello!

I’m Frishta Nazari, a dedicated Child and Youth Care student located in Toronto. Welcome to my professional ePortfolio, where I showcase my learning journey, experiences, and deep commitment to supporting children, youth, and families.

Through my studies at Centennial College and my hands-on placement in the Caring and Safe Schools Program (TDSB), I have gained valuable experience working with children in need of emotional, social, and behavioral support. My approach emphasizes the importance of building safe, trusting relationships, assisting children in managing their emotions, and guiding them through their daily routines.

One of my most impactful experiences was developing a wellness toolkit for adults with developmental disabilities during my service-learning project at Cedar Heights Residential Living. This initiative deepened my understanding of how creative activities, visual aids, and straightforward strategies can significantly enhance emotional well-being and self-regulation.

Our services

I provide supportive and caring guidance for children and youth to help them manage their emotions, feel safe, and build confidence. My approach is based on my studies in Child and Youth Care and my experience working in school and community settings.

I use simple and practical strategies such as emotional regulation activities, mindfulness, and structured routines to support well-being. My goal is to help children and youth feel calm, understood, and supported in their daily lives.

I focus on building strong, trusting relationships and using trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches to meet each child’s unique needs.

Project management

From planning to implementation, I design and use supportive activities that help children and youth improve their emotional well-being. I focus on creating simple, structured, and meaningful strategies that support emotional regulation, daily routines, and positive behaviour.

Through my experience in school settings and community projects, I ensure that each activity is safe, inclusive, and adapted to the needs of each individual. My goal is to create positive outcomes by helping children and youth feel calm, confident, and supported in their environment.

Personal Beliefs, Values, and Behaviors as a CYCP

Throughout this semester, I have developed a stronger sense of self-awareness regarding my role as a CYCP. My core beliefs include compassion, inclusivity, and advocacy for young people, ensuring they feel heard and valued. I recognize that every child comes from a unique background, and my role is to provide a safe, supportive, and culturally responsive space for them.

One of my greatest strengths is my ability to connect with children easily through icebreakers and interactive communication. My warm smile, friendly nature, and natural love for kids help me build instant rapport and trust with young individuals. Additionally, I am fluent in five languages, including English, which allows me to better understand the cultural backgrounds of the youth I support. This skill helps me bridge language gaps, provide comfort, and create a sense of belonging for children and families from diverse backgrounds.

Example: Recently, during a class discussion, I reflected on how my ability to speak multiple languages helped me engage with a newcomer child who was struggling with English. By communicating in their native language, I was able to make them feel understood and included, reinforcing the importance of cultural awareness in CYC practice.

Connection to GC&E Learning Outcome

GC&E principles emphasize the importance of social equity, cultural competency, and global awareness in CYC practice. Throughout this course, I have deepened my understanding of systemic inequalities and the role of CYCPs in advocating for marginalized youth.

Example: Learning about the barriers newcomer children face in Canadian schools has reinforced my commitment to creating inclusive spaces where every child feels welcome. I now recognize that as a CYCP, my role extends beyond daily interactions—I am also responsible for challenging biases, advocating for fair treatment, and promoting diversity within my professional setting.
